theHotness: Week In Review (03.05.11)

So this ends the first week of Women’s History Month. Yeah! And oh what a week it was. Tiger blood? The Oscars? Kim K’s god-awful Jam? Lil Kim’s face?

Let’s take it from the top: Already said to be the whitest Oscars in decades, The Academy Awards lived up to everyone’s expectation of homogeneity. I didn’t even bother to tune-in. I just wanted to see the dresses and the next morning when I checked the fashion blogs I was not disappointed. Personally, Halle was the best dressed. She just seemed to glisten in that nude crystal encrusted Marchesa gown. And the silk tulle at the bottom just took it over the top. Runners up: Gwyneth Paltrow and Cate Blanchett.

Last night Halle kept the stuntin’ hot as she rocked the NAACP Image Awards in an Emilio Pucci dress with sexy cut-outs that revealed her navel. Can we say theHotness? And while I’m on subject, how in the heck did Justin Timberlake cop a nomination from the NAACP for his role in The Social Network?

In media news it was announced this week that Constance White, the former style director and brand consultant for eBay, has been tapped as editor in chief of Essence.

And in all other media news, of course, there’s Charlie Sheen. I’m not even going to go there because he clearly has some mental health issues.  I really liked this article in the NY Times because it moves our gaze pass the ever ensuing car wreck that is #winning and looks at the women involved with Sheen and how sexism and abuse can be sugarcoated in the world of men who make almost two  million dollars an episode and profess to bleed tiger.

Lastly “Video of The Week” honors go to Pierre Bennu for his wonderfully creative, humorous and empowering take on Harriet Tubman in his commercial series entitled Black Moses Barbie.

Absolutely agree with the Halle Berry Oscar dress. She was stunning! So too, Gwyneth Paltrow. But Cate Blanchette’s dress? Nah.

Thank you for Black Moses Barbie. Smart, sharp and fabulously funny in a deadly serious kinda way. Sending it to my 16-year old daughter!

Love you NikkiNic. You are always the hotness with the mostest!
