Happy Birthday First Lady Michelle Obama!

While I’m working on other projects and can’t blog as much as I’d like, I’m happy that so many of my most favorite women are Capricorns, giving me the opportunity to give quick shout-outs of birthday love. Yesterday was Sade’s birthday and it also would’ve been Aaliyah’s 34th, God rest her soul.

Today is none other than our First Lady Michelle Obama’s 49th birthday! She set the celebration off with a social media bang this morning with the launch of a new Twitter account. Her new, gangsta Twitter handle is @FLOTUS and I assume it will replace her former @MichelleObama handle. Michelle Obama inspires me to be healthy, chic and real. Michelle LaVaughn RobinsonĀ is a huge reason, okay maybe the reason why I voted for President Obama. There are so many reasons we love the FLOTUS– her style is thehotness all day long, pictures of her and her hub remind us of the easy grace and power of real love and well, here are 49 More Reasons. Somehow Michelle always knows just the right things to say. This quote spoke to me in particular today as I wrote out my monthly checks and revised an essay I’m working on about The Central Park Five and their pursuit for justice:

“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once, but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.”

“Find your space. Find your spot. Wear what you love. Choose the careers that may have meaning to you, because there’s always somebody who will say, ‘I wouldn’t have worn that color,’ or ‘Why didn’t you work at that job?’ But if you’re comfortable in the choice and it resonates with you, then all that other stuff– it’s just conversation. People have the right to have conversations. But I think that’s one thing we as women sometimes do– we don’t make choices that have meaning to us. And then when those things fall apart, you have to have yourself to fall back on.” -Michelle Obama
